Susan’s Story: From Self-Doubt to Small Wins (and Loving Every Second)

Meet Susan – a fairly new member at CaliUnity, but someone whose journey sums up what we’re all about. Susan joined with a few nerves, plenty of honesty, and a willingness to give something new a try. Her story might just sound a lot like yours.

Why CaliUnity?

“I really liked calisthenics and tried doing it myself at home with social media, but it never quite stuck. When CaliUnity popped up, it just felt like the perfect opportunity to do something with real structure.”

First Impressions

Susan remembers her very first visit:
“I walked through the door as a class was finishing. People were coming out in their socks, chatting, laughing, having coffee. I knew right then this was where I wanted to be. I’ve had no doubts since.”

Battling Self-Doubt

It wasn’t all plain sailing at the start.
“When I first started, I told myself I’d never be able to do the things I was seeing. But that was OK – I was here to exercise and get fitter. I quickly realised I was being negative. When I switched that off, I started to improve. Every time, it’s the little wins.”

The Power of Community

Why does Susan love CaliUnity?
“It’s called CaliUnity for a reason. It’s such an amazing community. I didn’t want a gym where you just stick your headphones in and get on with it. Here, it’s everything. The support, the people, the atmosphere.”

Favourite Skill? Favourite Feeling?

Susan thought her favourite skill would be handstands, but soon realised it was so much more.
“Every time there’s something new, I want to try it. I think I won’t be able to, but I always surprise myself that I can do more than I thought.”

Advice for Anyone Thinking of Joining

Her advice is simple and direct:
“Take the six week challenge – just try it for yourself. No one I’ve met here has been disappointed.”

Biggest Win?

“Going upside down, laughing because it’s ridiculous, and doing something I’ve never been able to do before. It’s those small things that matter.”

Mental Health, Motivation, and Moving Forward

“Every time I come out of a class, I’m gushing with something to say. It’s so important for my mental health. I’ve gone through a crazy time in my life, and this has put me back on the straight and narrow. I absolutely love it, and everyone that comes here.”

Susan’s journey is proof: you don’t have to be a certain ‘type’ of person to join CaliUnity. You just have to start. You might just find, like Susan, that it’s life changing.
