NEAT - non-exercise activity thermogenesis. Walking, standing up rather than sitting, or even fidgeting. No, dear reader, we’re not going to instill the habit of fidgeting into your life, but it would help you burn more calories at rest. These small acts of movement add up throughout the day and account for a large chunk of your calorie expenditure come to the end of the day. At CaliUnity, we aim to slowly increase your step count overtime, making it a part of your life and effortlessly burning more calories throughout the day to keep the weight off in the long run.
Sleep habits - phone off 1 hour before bed, read before bed, meditate before bed. There are a plethora of habits that can help our sleep, but our sleep quality really is the meta-habit that will help everything else. If we get these habits right, and improve our sleep, nutrition choices become easier, working out is easier and life becomes overall better. We don’t just look at fitness and nutrition here at CaliUnity, we look at the whole picture.
Water - upping your water intake can fight off that midday slump, make you fuller for longer and fuels your vital bodily functions. Small changes like drinking more first thing in the morning, keeping a water bottle on you at all times or drinking more cold water all has a massive change overtime on your health. Overall, if you want to change big, start small, but put all your effort into the consistency of that habit.
Take brushing your teeth for example. A daily habit morning and evening that keeps your teeth clean, but its more than that. It stops the pain of a filling, saves you dentist fees and makes your breath smell fresher.
Yet, when you were a kid, I bet you didn’t want to brush your teeth. Your parents forced you to, much to your dismay, and now I bet you have nice white teeth.
You wanted the result of nicer teeth, fresher breath, and wanted to avoid the pain of emptying your wallet on dentist fees, and yet you still didn’t want to brush your teeth.
We need people to help us to instill habits in our life. We can ofcourse do it ourselves, but we’re talking about the most important aspect of your life here - your health.
