On-Air with Radio Bath: Mel McCluskey Shares What’s Next for CaliUnity

When our very own Mel McCluskey sat down at the Radio Bath studio recently, it wasn’t just a chance to talk about fitness—it was an opportunity to share the heart of CaliUnity with the whole city.

As our Member & Community Manager, Mel has a unique perspective on what’s happening inside our four walls and beyond. On-air, she spoke about CaliUnity’s journey so far, what makes our community unique, and—most importantly—where we’re heading next.

Shining a Light on Community-Led Fitness

Mel explained that CaliUnity has always been more than just a gym. Our mission is to make fitness accessible, inclusive and genuinely enjoyable for all ages and backgrounds. We’re proud to be big on community, bringing people together, helping everyone feel healthier and stronger. As Mel put it, “Come in for a chat, for coffee. It’s great if you come in for a class, but anytime you’re around, pop in, meet us, have a chat with other members.”

Current Projects and Exciting Plans

On the show, Mel highlighted several of our latest endeavours, including:

  • The 6-Week Challenge: A kickstart for those looking to build lasting habits, open to all abilities.

  • Workshops & Events: From handstands to flexibility, there’s always something new to try.

  • The CaliFoundation: Our new charitable arm, designed to give back and make fitness and mental health support available to those who need it most in Bath.

  • Member-Led Socials: Regular get-togethers, socials and even coffee mornings to make sure every member feels part of the family.

  • CIC: We’re becoming a Community Interest Company; we’ll be operating as a non-profit, allowing us to reinvest into the community, such as a calisthenics yard outside our gym.

Mel is passionate about championing our engagement with young people. As a mother to a teenage daughter, the endeavour is really close to her heart. We just ran our first girls’ calisthenics workshop this week, a real success with 11 out of 12 attending.

Spotlight on Member Stories

Mel shared some moving member journeys on Radio Bath—stories of people overcoming gym anxiety, finding new confidence, and even making life-long friends at CaliUnity.

“One of my favourite things is watching someone walk in quietly and, a few weeks later, seeing them high-fiving others and helping newcomers settle in.”

Looking Ahead

We’re organising lots of events for our members, opportunities to get together and socialise. We’re much more than your regular gym. “We want people to engage, we want their ideas, we want them to cheer for each other. We have a bell upstairs, so if someone does something, we ring the bell, we cheer for them, we shout.” At CaliUnity, it’s all about the ‘green lights’, celebrating the small wins as well as the large ones.

Our focus is on growth, outreach, and keeping the sense of belonging strong as the community expands. Whether it’s supporting members through workshops, welcoming total beginners, or partnering with local charities, CaliUnity’s mission is to put people first—always.

Get Involved

Whether you’re curious about our latest challenges, want to join a workshop, or just want to see what makes our community so special, you’re always welcome to come by or get in touch.

A huge thank you to Radio Bath and Stephanie Hill for a warm, lovely welcome.

Stay tuned for more exciting news and upcoming announcements from CaliUnity!
