Food, Community, and Connection: CaliUnity’s Nutrition Event

This week, we hosted a special event at CaliUnity to welcome our new nutritionist, Laura Higgitt — and it was about so much more than just food.

The evening included:
🧘‍♀️ Meditation breaks to reset and refocus
🍴 Food tasting with healthy, creative dishes
💬 Q&A session where members asked their biggest nutrition questions
🤝 A social hangout that reminded us how powerful community is

Why This Event Mattered

Laura shared her story, from supporting communities in Ukraine to designing food programs and packages that go far beyond nutrients.

For her, food isn’t just about ingredients or macros — it’s about what food gives us:
✔️ Creativity in the kitchen
✔️ Joy in eating together
✔️ A sense of comfort and connection

As Laura put it:

“What brought me to nutrition has been loving food and the whole picture of what it brings.”

This event wasn’t about quick fixes or strict plans. It was about a fresh way to look at food — as fuel, yes, but also as joy, connection, and community.

And judging by the laughter, conversations, and empty plates at the end…it worked.

P.S. Our nutritionist, Laura, is one of many ways we can support you here at CaliUnity.
